50/50 Sharemilker

Anonymous Farm / Business50/50 SharemilkerMeremere, Waikato

My clients are seeking their first 50/50 share milker for their circa 220ha property (inc 70ha lease) well located mid-way between Auckland and Hamilton at Island Block near Meremere. The property consists of mainly rolling clay soils (90%) with an area of wetter peat flats and is split by a road accessed via 2 underpasses. There is a good 32ASHB cowshed which is centrally located along with a recently upgraded lined effluent pond. Production has been variable in recent years due to a reduction in area and changes in staffing and cropping/feeding regimes but has peaked at 160,000kgMS from approx 260ha eff. This season it is on track to do around 130,000kgMS (last season 140,000kgMS). The farm has been calving around 500 cows on a System 2 with minimal bought in feed to keep things simple. Some cropping has been trialed with maize, triticale and chicory. The system has primarily been TAD milking until mid Sept when the young herd goes onto OAD, the older TAD herd goes onto OAD from Christmas on, therefore opportunities exist to increase production from tweaks to this. There are 3 homes available for the share milker; 2 x 3 bedroom and 1 x 4 bedroom, all have had some form of redecorating in recent years and they are well positioned with nice views over the farm. The farm owners ideally seek a young, keen sharemilker with excellent communication and pasture management skills in order to get the most out of the property. There could be the opportunity to purchase the farm/part of in the medium term for those with farm ownership aspirations. The owners’ Jsy/KX herd is available for sale and due to not being pushed hard has consistently achieved excellent mating results, 3% MT last season and 6-7% 5yr avg with no intervention used. Sexed semen is used for 3 weeks as well as Speckle Park bulls (out by Xmas) with calves including replacements and a large number of beefies all going to the farm owners’ runoff block. Going forward with new Sharemilkers the farm owners would like to reduce stocking rates down to around 450 cows. They would however be happy to look at good Sharemilkers who may not have the financial ability to go to 450 straight away and would look at options down to 350 cows as a minimum and how the system may change to accommodate this e.g. replacements grazed on farm. There is also the possibility for the right operator to potentially Contract Manage the farm for the first year however the preference is to find a 50/50 Sharemilker. ***ONLY APPLICATIONS THAT HAVE A CV AND REFERENCES AVAILABLE WILL BE FOLLOWED UP*** Applicants need to have the right to work in NZ and random or pre-employment drug checks may be used. Due to unforeseen circumstances relisting. Drive Production. Elevate Performance. Lift Profitability. Our client is seeking an energetic, forward-thinking 50/50 sharemilker ready to step into a well-resourced, high-performing dairying business and take it to the next level. This is an opportunity to build your own success on a property with scale, strong historical performance and the foundations for future growth. With a long-term production average of 145,000 kgMS and peak seasons of 160,000 kgMS from Holstein Friesian cows, this farm has proven output. The herd has now been sold — leaving the gate wide open for the next generation to come in, build their own herd, and shape the direction of the farming system. A recent Farmax review indicates a minimum production of 120,000 kgMS under a crossbred herd, but the modelling also makes one thing clear: there’s significantly more potential to unlock here. Why This Opportunity Stands Out A well-set-up property designed for efficiency, animal welfare and consistent results: - 360 crossbred/Friesian cows with a preferred planned start of calving around 15 July - 148 effective hectares — 100 ha flat, 48 ha easy rolling, including 85 ha effluent area - 36-aside herringbone shed with strong infrastructure to support scale - Feed pad, two wintering pads, and extensive implement shedding - 15 ha of maize on-platform, plus homegrown baleage and bulk silage - PKE, DDG and Soy meal imported to drive performance and hit targets - Labour requirement: 2.5–3 FTE - Healthy Homes-certified, 3-bedroom home, plus double garage - Only 25 km to central Whangārei Build Your System. Grow Your Business. The surrounding support network amplifies the opportunity: - Neighbouring calf grazing eliminates cartage costs and keeps your replacements close - Lease block directly across the road ideal for rearing heifers under your own management, perfect set-up for AI programmes, giving you more control and faster genetic progress - Strong infrastructure allows for future-focused, sustainable system design If you thrive on improving performance, love your cows, and want to be part of a supportive, collaborative partnership, this is a position where your skills and ambition will be valued and rewarded. Shape the System, Drive the Direction One of the most exciting aspects of this opportunity is the farm owner’s willingness to evolve the system. If you bring well-thought-out ideas, solid analysis, and a clear case for value, you’ll find a partner open to change. Whether it’s refining feed strategy, or adopting new technologies, this is a place where informed innovation is encouraged — and where the right sharemilker can help shape the future of the business.
