We are looking for an Assistant Dairy Farm Manager /2IC. The position is based in Mokoreta, Invercargill, Southland area in New Zealand.
This is full-time, permanent positions guaranteeing at least 30 hours of work per week, but you will usually work between 30 to 50 hours per week. The pay rate is $32 per hour.
Responsibilities:
The 2IC / Assistant Dairy Farm Manager will work closely with the Contract Milker to ensure the smooth and efficient daily operations of the farm. The role requires overseeing the day-to-day management of the farm, including milking, animal health, calving, mating, equipment handling, general farm maintenance, implementing farm policies and plans. The 2IC will act as the second in-command and will be expected to manage the farm in the absence of the Contract Milker. Assistant Dairy Farm Manager must report to contract milker.
Supervises milking from paddock to farm dairy as required. Implements routine maintenance schedules, including the milking plant, identifying and fixing faults as needed. Maintains hygiene and cleanliness around dairy.
Implements and monitors health, calving and mating plans and reports progress. Identifies and treats animal health problems.
Monitors all calving mobs and calf rearing on farm. Diagnoses and manages all calving-related health issues and ensures the recording and tagging of young stock.
Carry out effluent disposal and irrigation in accordance with environmental policies and farm instructions. Monitors the irrigation and pumping system and repairs minor faults and troubleshoots problems.
Actively models a H, S & W culture and is aware of others in the workplace. Understands and assists with development and monitors throughout season; assists with developing farm budget.
Safely uses and maintains vehicles on farm as directed by on farm policy. Supports and trains junior employees in their development. Assist with additional farm tasks & projects as required.
Requirements:
Tertiary qualification (Level 4 or higher), ideally in dairy, but will also consider qualifications in management/business/administration/leadership or another field, or At least 2.5 to 3 years' experience in the dairy farm industry, with excellent knowledge of dairy farm framework. (knowledge will be extensively tested at interview)
Intricate knowledge of workplace safety standards. (Knowledge will be extensively tested at interview)
Ability to communicate effectively to a multi-cultural team and other management.
Applicant should be reliable, enthusiastic, honest, proactive and working. Be physically fit and can-do-attitude.

The farm maintains a drug & smoke free environment. Candidate must go through drug test at nearest medical centre. Pets & smoking is strongly prohibited. No criminal history.
