Looking to appoint a motivated Assistant Manager/ 2IC for our dairy farm situated in the Franklin District, South Auckland. Located only 1hr to Auckland CBD, and less than 10 mins from Waiuku, we are milking 400 Friesian cows on a 120 hectare milking platform. System 5 farm with a covered feed pad and irrigation. We strive for continuously improving our farming systems and doing the best for our cows. We support and invest in our team members, striving to learn and develop. Reporting to the farm managers (shared role) we operate on 11 on 3 off roster, with four other farm staff; as well as ongoing support from the onsite farm owners. The Job The Assistant Manager role has come up due to a restructure within current staffing. The job is a ‘hands-on’ job that will get the successful applicant involved in all parts of the farm operations. You should be striving for improvement in every part of the dairy farm operations, including: - Production - Diet - Calving/ Mating Outcomes - Milk Quality - Pasture and Irrigation Management - Environmental Outcomes - Health and Safety Objectives - Farm Compliance Tasks will include (but not limited to): - Milking twice a day and moving cows from paddock to farm dairy as required. - Implements and monitors health, calving and mating plans and reports progress. - Identifies and treats animal health problems. - Working with Farm Managers, Owners and Nutritionist to implement diet, and actively mixing, and spreading feed through mixer wagon onto feed pad. - Meets all environmental regulations through management of soil, nutrients, effluent and water efficiently. - Communicates clearly with other members of staff. - Safely uses Motorbikes, Tractors and implements to complete daily tasks. - Maintains vehicles on farm as directed by on farm policy. - Actively models a Health, Safety and Wellbeing culture and is aware of others in the workplace. - Manage the farm operations when the Farm Managers are on rostered days off. This role would suit someone who is looking to further their farming career. The job requires someone who is hard working, respectful and passionate about dairy farming in New Zealand. The job is for the 2026-2027 season and beyond, so start date will be 1 June 2026. The Person The successful applicant will be someone who is hard working, diligent, careful in their work, and has a desire to learn and grow in the dairy industry. To be successful in this job you will be required to have: - Minimum 3 years of experience on a NZ Dairy Farm. - Proven ability to work with honesty, integrity, reliability and adaptability. - Willingness to learn from very experienced farmers. - The ability to manage the farm when farm managers are on rostered days off. - A ‘can do’, positive attitude. - Good communication skills. - Current full NZ drivers licence. - Experience with tractors, implements and machinery. - Pride in your work. - A passion for working with cows. - Pass random drug tests. - The farm is drug and alcohol free. We will offer an excellent remuneration package with modern 4 bedroom accommodation available only 8mins to the nearest supermarket, however drive in applicants will be considered as well.
