We’re after a capable Herd Manager to join our 1,000 cow operation in the Wairau Valley. You’ll be part of a team of 5–6, milking through a 50-bale rotary on a 5/2 roster. The role: – Animal health, mating and general herd management – Milking and shed management – Identifying and treating lameness and sickness – Feed allocation and pasture awareness – Keeping on top of day-to-day jobs around the farm – Working closely with the team to keep things running well What you’ll need: – Minimum AgITO Level 3 (or equivalent experience) – Strong stock sense and attention to detail – Confident in the shed and basic animal treatments – Reliable, easygoing, and communicates well – Takes pride in doing the job properly Must be able to pass pre employment drug test. We are looking for someone keen to work alongside us on our 650 cow, 40 aside herring bone farm. You must have an excellent attitude and enjoy working in a team. We like to give our staff autonomy, to think for themselves, and add ideas to help the farm run smoothly and enjoyable. We do have a lot of Kline, but hopefully down the track we will pop in a pivot or two. We are also in the process of getting cow manager and drafting gates etc. We are new owners of the farm and heading into our first season of milking after having a couple of years off. We also have 2 farms in the Amuri Basin and you may have to shoot down there to help with wintering the cows during July (but hopefully not). The house isn’t great- it’s right next to the cowshed but it’s cute and easily looked after if that’s what you’re into.
