**The Opportunity**
We are seeking an experienced and motivated managing couple to operate a well-established dairy farm in Tapawera. This is a senior, hands-on role suited to people who take pride in farm performance, leadership and professional reporting.
You will be the on-farm operational lead, responsible for day-to-day management while working closely with off-farm sharemilkers, farm owners and a farm consultant to deliver agreed production, financial and people outcomes.
**Key Responsibilities**
**Farm Operations, Production & Herd Management**
- Lead all daily farm operations to achieve agreed production and performance targets
- Manage milking operations on a 28-bale rotary, ensuring milk quality and efficiency
- Implement pasture, feed and grazing plans across hilly contour
- Oversee animal health, reproduction, calving and young stock management
- Maintain high standards of animal welfare at all times
**Business Performance & Reporting**
- Monitor farm performance against agreed KPIs (production, reproduction, pasture, costs and people)
- Prepare and present monthly written KPI and performance reports, including:
- Production results and trends
- Budget vs actual expenditure
- Forecasts, risks and improvement opportunities
- Contribute to annual planning, budgeting and continuous improvement initiatives
**People Leadership & Management**
- Recruit, train, lead and support farm staff
- Manage rosters, seasonal workloads and staff development
- Foster a positive, respectful and safety-focused team culture
**Stakeholder & Relationship Management**
- Work collaboratively with off-farm sharemilkers, farm owners and the farm consultant
- Act as the key on-farm contact, ensuring agreed strategies and decisions are implemented
- Maintain clear, professional communication and participate in regular review and planning meetings
**Asset, Compliance & Health & Safety**
- Ensure farm infrastructure, machinery and plant are well maintained
- Manage environmental compliance, including effluent systems and farm environment plans
- Champion health, safety and wellbeing, ensuring systems are in place and followed
**About You**
- Proven experience in dairy farm management (ideally at Farm Manager or equivalent level)
- Strong leadership, organisation and communication skills
- Confident working with KPIs, budgets and producing monthly performance reports
- Able to work independently while collaborating effectively with owners and advisors
- Physically fit, practical and committed to best practice dairy farming
- A managing couple who complement each other and share responsibility effectively
