We are looking for a dependable Dairy Farm Assistant to join our Taranaki-based operation, located just 10 minutes from Inglewood. The role begins in June or July 2026 (start date flexible to suit the successful applicant). Our farm milks approximately 320 cows through a 40‑aside herringbone shed with in‑shed feeding. You’ll work alongside the farm owner and support the day‑to‑day running of the farm. We have an awesome opportunity for a keen individual to join our team. We will calve 600 cows peak milking around 580 through a tidy and modern 40 aside herringbone. The shed is fitted with Acrs, walkover teatsprayer, Protrack drafting, and has covered side yards for working in all conditions. The farm is Flat to rolling and very tidy. We are seeking a keen enthusiastic Farm Assistant to join our team. Duties include milking, day work such as putting up break fences, spraying. We have a tidy farm located on the township boundary with approximately 420 cows, a 44 a/s h/b shed with Inshed feed and cup removers, and a travelling irrigator. Ideally, candidates should have a minimum of 1 year's experience. Tractor work is minimal and not essential to know how to drive one. We autumn calve (mid March - end of April) and dry off in the summer, requiring extra hands during calving and AB. Operating a split calving structure to minimise cow wastage, optimise feed supply and demand and reduce milking duration at times throughout the season. Running two herds, with 2 people in the cowshed. Part time casual labour employed to cover regular time off, enable flexibility in the system and help through peak times (calvings and matings). System 3-4 farm with in-shed feed and summer crops grown. Achieving over 500 kgMS/cow. Approx. 100 replacements reared each year which remain on farm until May, when they head to grazing. Key responsibilities include: - Milking, animal health and effluent management. - Feed management and pasture planning. - Maintain high standards of farm presentation and performance. - Strong shed hygiene and milk quality awareness. - Minda recording and planning. - Helping manage animal health and welfare, including identifying issues and carrying out treatments. - Operate tractors and farm machinery safely and efficiently. - Knowledge of reproduction and heat detection. - Support calf rearing operations. - Assist with farm maintenance and upkeep of buildings and equipment. - Effective communication with the farm owner and casual staff. - Ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and requirements. - Step up and run the farm in the occasional absence of the Farm owner. - Performing other general farm duties.
