We have a job for a dairy farm assistant who will ideally have 2+ years’ New Zealand dairy farm experience. This is for a 400 cow farm in the Kokatahi area, 30 minutes from Hokitika, milking through a 36 Aside Herringbone shed. You'll have a range of duties to keep you busy, interested and developing including: - Milking twice a day - Shifting cows and feeding - Fencing, weed control - Calving, calf rearing - Shed cleaning and setup - Identifying and alerting managers to sick cows - Setting fences and other general farm duties. Weekly hours are a minimum of 30 and a maximum of 55. Since farm work is dependent on a number of unknown factors like weather and animals, should you work beyond the agreed maximum hours in a fortnightly pay period, you will be paid the agreed overtime hourly rate for each additional hour worked. The schedule may vary; Roster will be 11 days on, 3 days off. Wage is between $23.50 - $29.00 per hour subject to experience. Candidates are required to provide good related references. We have a position available on an 400-cow farm milking in Kowhitirangi, milking through a 34 aside herringbone. We utilise Halter. This could suit a couple as hours can be available on weekends for milkings to cover sharemilkers time off. You would be assisting with general farm duties, including milking cows, feeding calves, repair and maintenance, putting up fences. Tractor driving, fertiliser, feeding out. Picking cows for AI would be an advantage. The suitable candidate would be someone who is physically fit, enjoys rural life and works well in a team environment. Must have a clear police and drug history. Must be willing to submit to random drug testing on farm. 4 bedroom accommodation available. Must be physically fit. Roster 11 on 3 off. Herd Manager required for large dairy farm on West Coast 20 km from Hokitika. Minimum experience required of 2-3 years on New Zealand dairy farm, and Level 3 Certificate in Agriculture OR significant progress towards completing that qualification. Qualities required include a professional approach, ability to work under pressure, organisational and time management skills and excellent attention to detail. This role includes the ability to work effectively as a part of a large team. Must be able to efficiently and safely run the day-to-day operation include milking cows, shed hygiene, feed allocation, animal health monitoring and treatments, breeding AB selection, feeding supplements, tractor work, effluent management, and weed and pest control. Must be able to supervise and train other staff on the farm, and use and manage farm technology, recording and management systems. Good level of literacy and numeracy required to ensure accurate data recording and monitoring and ensure correct feeding and treatments. Ability to keep a clean and tidy workplace is essential. Ability and experience riding 2 wheel and 4 wheel motorbikes safely on difficult terrain is also required. A minimum of Full Class 1 NZ Drivers Licence required. We are looking for a VOSM/ LOSM for the 26/27 season and beyond. The farm is 86 ha effective milking approx 250 high BW/ high producing cows through a 26a/s HB cowshed with cup removers. The land/ pasture is well established with approx 60 ha of flat/ terraces, 12 ha rolling and 14 ha steep country. The farming operation is run as system 2-3. Grass silage is harvested on farm, maize silage imported and PKE also fed through strategic periods. Farm production has been consistent at +1100 kg MS/ ha and +380 kg MS/ cow. The current VOSM has decided to retire and has been operating the farm for the 9 seasons, we are looking for someone with excellent stock skills and a high level of attention to pasture management - some areas of the farm can be challenging in this regard. The property is located 20 mins southeast of Te Puke (35-40 mins from Tauranga and 40-45 mins from Rotorua). Owners live on farm but not involved in day to day operation but like to be kept informed and involved in farm improvement projects. This is a well proven property with good infrastructure (cowshed, 3 bdr home, new effluent system etc) in a great location in the awesome Bay of Plenty. VOSM rate is very competitive, like to see operator well compensated for good outcomes/ results.

We milk 650 cows through a 48 bale cow shed with auto teat spray and automatic cup removers. The farm is flat contour, tidy and well setup and located approximately 10 mins to Hokitika. We run an 11 and 3 roster with a max hours of 55, hours over the year are variable but will average a lot lower than 55. We run a team of 3 full time workers and there is always 2 people working.
