Location: On-site at the farm in Ngatimoti – 20 mins from Motueka/Tasman
Duration/Role Type: 30-40 hour casual role from now – March 2027
Job Purpose
We are seeking a few hardworking, energetic, and detail-oriented Seasonal Flower Farm Assistants to join our passionate crew for an epic growing season!
If you have a deep love for plants, thrive in a fast-paced outdoor environment, and appreciate the satisfaction of a hard day's work, we want to hear from you! This is your chance to get hands-on experience in the floral and horticulture industry while helping us grow our start-up flower farm.
The Ultimate Outdoor Gig: What You’ll Do
Your daily tasks will shift with the seasons. Your primary responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Planting & Cultivation: Get your hands in the soil by sowing seeds, transplanting delicate seedlings and/or potting up nursery plants.
- Crop Maintenance: Keep our fields and flowers happy and nourished through diligent cultivating, weeding, fertilising, and general plant care. We avoid use of chemical sprays and fertilisers and will use organic products whenever possible.
- Deadheading: Keep the blooms coming! You'll regularly remove faded flowers to promote continuous, bursting colour all summer long.
- The Harvest: Snip flower and foliage stems accurately and efficiently at the ideal stage of growth to ensure the best possible vase life.
- Post-Harvest Processing: Work with the freshly cut stems—sorting, bunching, conditioning, and storing them beautifully before they head out to delight our customers.
- Farm Upkeep: Keep our shared spaces looking tidy and organised by helping to maintain and keep organised our flower farm tools and supplies. Occasional help washing out flower buckets and seed trays possible.
Job Requirements & Qualifications
This is a highly rewarding, fast-paced, and physically demanding role. Think of it as a paid summer workout! For this role you'll need:
- Physical Fitness & Stamina: Ready for strenuous outdoor labor in whatever the Tasman region throws at us—frost, rain, or beautiful summer heat. You’ll spend hours bending, squatting, kneeling and working directly on the ground.
- Lifting Power: You can easily lift and move flower buckets filled with water, rolls of weed mat, and bags of soil amendments.
- A Passion for Plants: You have a genuine interest in/love for gardening, horticulture, floriculture, or the green industry.
- An Eye for Beauty: You have an excellent eye for detail and a commitment to high quality when handling our delicate blooms.
- A Stellar Team Mindset: You bring a positive, collaborative, and supportive attitude to our crew every single day.
- Experience (A Bonus, Not a Must!): If you've worked on a farm, nursery, commercial garden, or landscaping crew before, that’s awesome! If not, don't worry—a strong work ethic and willingness to learn are what matter most.
- Tech Savvy Approach (BYOD): We use cloud-based software to manage our plantings, plant care and harvests. You’ll use our WiFi (no cellular data required) to receive daily tasks, tick off any completed tasks, and log flower harvests.
- Ability to Follow Directions to a “T”: Working on a farm, you’ll need to adhere to our health and safety procedures and training protocols.
- Planning & Phenom Communication Skills: To ensure the smooth operation of the farm and our growing season, we will ask you for your availability for any given week by 10am on the prior Thursday.
What you’ll need for this role:
- “Wheels”: Our farm is located in a rural area without public transportation. You’ll need reliable transport to get to the farm to complete your shifts.
- The right “kicks”: You’ll need to wear your own sturdy, closed-toe footwear – boots or solid trainers.
- Sun Protection: You’ll need to bring your own sunblock, hat and/or protective clothing to keep your skin safe!
- Smartphone: You will need a reliable smartphone. This will be used for receiving and logging tasks.
