Experienced Stock Person
Rotherwood Farming Ltd | Maniototo, Otago | Full-time
We’re looking for a practical, reliable person who enjoys working with cattle and wants plenty of variety in their day.
About Rotherwood
Rotherwood is an intensive beef finishing & arable operation across just over 900 ha. We run around 1,300–1,500 cattle, irrigate with centre pivots, and grow cereals, forage crops and all our supplementary feed on farm.
We use Halter & Resolution as part of our livestock system and have modern, quality plant and machinery. Rotherwood is a tidy, organised farm where standards are high and effort is valued.
About the role
This is a hands-on stock role with a mix of machinery, irrigation and general farm work. You’ll work alongside our Livestock Manager to put grazing and feed plans into practice.
Your work will include:
* Checking and moving cattle, shifting grazing breaks and feeding out
* Helping with animal health, weighing, drafting and yard work
* Using Halter and keeping accurate livestock and animal health records
* Seasonal tractor work such as raking hay, stacking bales, cultivation, spreading fertiliser and loading grain trucks
* Checking pivots and helping with machinery care, servicing and repairs
We’re looking for someone who
* Enjoys working with cattle and takes their welfare seriously
* Can carry out planned grazing rotations and understands how cattle’s feed needs change through the seasons
* Operates machinery safely and takes pride in looking after it
* Communicates well, uses good judgement and is comfortable with technology
* Working dogs or a willingness to build and train a team is an advantage
On offer
You’ll join a supportive team that’s open to new ideas and makes good use of technology, with room to grow your skills and take on greater responsibility.
We’re keen to find the right person and have flexibility to shape the role around your skills and experience. If you bring experience beyond what’s outlined here, we’d still love to hear from you. Duties across the team can be adjusted to make the most of your strengths, including scope for greater responsibility from the outset. The remuneration package will reflect your experience and the role we agree together.
This is a permanent role. The proposed roster is 12 days on and two days off, giving every second weekend off.
