Looking to appoint a motivated Assistant Manager/ 2IC for our dairy farm situated in the Franklin District, South Auckland. Located only 1hr to Auckland CBD, and less than 10 mins from Waiuku, we are milking 400 Friesian cows on a 120 hectare milking platform. System 5 farm with a covered feed pad and irrigation. We strive for continuously improving our farming systems and doing the best for our cows. We support and invest in our team members, striving to learn and develop. Reporting to the farm managers (shared role) we operate on 11 on 3 off roster, with four other farm staff; as well as ongoing support from the onsite farm owners. The Job The Assistant Manager role has come up due to a restructure within current staffing. The job is a ‘hands-on’ job that will get the successful applicant involved in all parts of the farm operations. You should be striving for improvement in every part of the dairy farm operations, including: - Production - Diet - Calving/ Mating Outcomes - Milk Quality - Pasture and Irrigation Management - Environmental Outcomes - Health and Safety Objectives - Farm Compliance Tasks will include (but not limited to): - Milking twice a day and moving cows from paddock to farm dairy as required. - Implements and monitors health, calving and mating plans and reports progress. - Identifies and treats animal health problems. - Working with Farm Managers, Owners and Nutritionist to implement diet, and actively mixing, and spreading feed through mixer wagon onto feed pad. - Meets all environmental regulations through management of soil, nutrients, effluent and water efficiently. - Communicates clearly with other members of staff. - Safely uses Motorbikes, Tractors and implements to complete daily tasks. - Maintains vehicles on farm as directed by on farm policy. - Actively models a Health, Safety and Wellbeing culture and is aware of others in the workplace. - Manage the farm operations when the Farm Managers are on rostered days off. Due to current Manager moving on, a position is available for a 50/50 Sharemilker on our Autumn calving farm. The farm is flat to easy rolling and has a peak herd size of 290-300 cows. The calving is set to start on 20/3/2026. The farm size is 122 hectares with a 25 aside shed. Accommodation is available in a 3 bed house. The average hours per week are 60, with the roster by negotiation. Remuneration is paid by a percentage of the milk cheque, with an expected remuneration of 500,000.
My clients are seeking their first 50/50 share milker for their circa 220ha property (inc 70ha lease) well located mid-way between Auckland and Hamilton at Island Block near Meremere. The property consists of mainly rolling clay soils (90%) with an area of wetter peat flats and is split by a road accessed via 2 underpasses. There is a good 32ASHB cowshed which is centrally located along with a recently upgraded lined effluent pond. Production has been variable in recent years due to a reduction in area and changes in staffing and cropping/feeding regimes but has peaked at 160,000kgMS from approx 260ha eff. This season it is on track to do around 130,000kgMS (last season 140,000kgMS). The farm has been calving around 500 cows on a System 2 with minimal bought in feed to keep things simple. Some cropping has been trialed with maize, triticale and chicory. The system has primarily been TAD milking until mid Sept when the young herd goes onto OAD, the older TAD herd goes onto OAD from Christmas on, therefore opportunities exist to increase production from tweaks to this. There are 3 homes available for the share milker; 2 x 3 bedroom and 1 x 4 bedroom, all have had some form of redecorating in recent years and they are well positioned with nice views over the farm. The farm owners ideally seek a young, keen sharemilker with excellent communication and pasture management skills in order to get the most out of the property. There could be the opportunity to purchase the farm/part of in the medium term for those with farm ownership aspirations. The owners’ Jsy/KX herd is available for sale and due to not being pushed hard has consistently achieved excellent mating results, 3% MT last season and 6-7% 5yr avg with no intervention used. Sexed semen is used for 3 weeks as well as Speckle Park bulls (out by Xmas) with calves including replacements and a large number of beefies all going to the farm owners’ runoff block.
