Tumunui Trust is looking for an experienced and enthusiastic 50:50 sharemilker for their Tumunui Te Raki Farm situated 15 mins south of Rotorua. We are looking for someone who is currently sharemilking and looking to scale up in size. The farm is 608 ha in total made up of a milking platform of 540 ha and a support block of 68 ha. The plan is to peak milk 900 cows and run a 22% replacement rate on the support block. Infrastructure on the farm is good. The shed is a 60 bale rotary with an in-shed feed system. The farm is switching from a split calving system to spring calving only. The production target is 300,000 kgMS. A regular fertiliser plan provided by a CNMA is followed. Between 100-120 kgN/ha is applied annually. Winter and summer crops (approx 30ha) are grown annually both on the milking platform and the support block. The farm is hilly with some steeper areas so you must be competent to manage a farm of this type. A sound understanding of the requirements for maintaining production, animal welfare, and environmental sustainability on such land is essential. You need to be a good and flexible pasture manager. We are looking for someone who has a commitment to compliance in all aspects of NZ dairy farming, strong communication and reporting skills — you’ll work closely with our farm consultant and the Tumunui Trustees, and a collaborative attitude and respect for the values of a Māori Trust. Before going through our settlement process in 2024 the Whakatōhea Māori Trust Board was established in 1952, and the Trust’s primary role was to administer the assets of the trust on behalf of its beneficiaries and in accordance with the Māori Trust Board Act 1955. Te Whakataunga o Te Raupatu Whenua Deed of Settlement was signed on Saturday 27th of May 2023, where the establishment of Te Tāwharau o Te Whakatōhea as the Post Settlement Governance Entity (PSGE) was established to receive and manage the Treaty settlement assets as well as the assets of the Whakatōhea Māori Trust Board. The Whakatōhea Dairy Farm - Te Riu o Kānapanapa is a legacy asset and was purchased with a grant given to Whakatōhea in 1946. The Opportunity Following the recent resignation of our Farm Manager, we are seeking Expressions of Interest from experienced Contract Milkers to operate a well-established and well-resourced dairy farming business.
