We are small family owned and operated dairy farm with 450 jersey cows looking for our next permanent full-time Farm Assistant. Our farm is located in the Canterbury foothills in Mount Somers which is 20 minutes from Methven and 30 minutes to Ashburton and we milk twice daily through a 40 aside herringbone cowshed with grain feeders, auto cup removers and auto teat spray. You will work as part of team to complete daily jobs of milking (twice daily), moving stock, setting up paddocks, tractor work, spraying, moving k-lines for effluent as well as general maintenance and cleaning. During this time of year we are moving stock on winter crops at the run off and doing maintenance jobs. We would prefer someone with at least one year experience. We run a 11 days on and 3 days off roster so you generally get second Saturday, Sunday and Monday off. Accommodation is available in the township which is a 2 minute drive from the farm. We require you to be drug free and be able to pass random tests and a criminal checks. Position two is Calf Rearer. This position will work alongside our two current calf rearers to support the growth and development of our calves during the calf rearing season. Our junior staff member has moved on to his next step, which has created a vacancy in our team. We are milking 600 cows twice-a-day (TAD) starting in mid-August, and will reduce this to once-a-day (OAD) in summer sometime. We are looking for a farm assistant to join our team, with at least 1 years of experience on dairy farm. Apart from the knowledge build up previously if you show you are passionate about the industry, have the right attitude and willingness to keep learning and work hard then you will be considered for the role. We contract milk 1350 cows in Bankside with Halter collar system. We milk through two sheds of 44 aside herringbone. In this moment one of the sheds has Protrack and in shed feed system. The successful applicant will be part of a six person team with support from the Contract Milkers. Your duties would eventually include all aspects of dairy farming including the following (but not limited to): Maintain fencing and water supply in a good working condition. Milking (Milking time 2.5-3 hours) - Break fencing if needed - General farm maintenance - Animal health (calf drenching, identify and treat mastitis, others) - Assist with a weed control programme for the farm. - Assisting with young stock (when required).
