In other words if you’re applying from overseas don’t waste your time.*** Part time on farm engineer / general farm hand. Swift Agri Limited is a farming business running 3500 ewes. We lease two farms in Southland, the larger being located at Redan where most of the stock work is required and another in Winton as well as the family farm in Woodlands that we don’t handle the day to day operations of but work in closely with and where most of the engineering related tasks are carried out. We like to do most farm related tasks in house and to a high standard avoiding out sourcing work where possible. This includes servicing and maintenance of farm machinery. Due to an increased workload we are looking for a skilled individual to step in for some regular part time work so that we can continue to farm at a high standard. The ideal candidate would be a highly skilled farmer / engineer living local in lower southland area that is happy doing 30 hours per week on average with the exception of lambing and cultivation where long days every day are a given but for the rest of the year it is cruizy. If we don’t find someone that is skilled in both farming and engineering we are open to employing someone who is only suitable as a farmer or an engineer. In this situation it would be a casual contract as the hours offered would be less. There is no accommodation offered on farm and with some days being short it is not justifiable to travel great distances to the farm for this role therefore please only apply if you live close enough that you are happy to travel to Redan and Woodlands on a regular basis. The ideal candidate will have a good background in dry stock farming as well as engineering and mechanical. Some key qualities / attributes we are looking for that would put you on top of our list to employ. (We don’t expect you to have all these qualities) - A good communicator that answers their phone the first time it rings. - Can listen and follow instructions when given. - Good welding / general engineering skills. - A skilled tractor operator. - Fencing skills. - Leaves property the way they find it. - Clean criminal history. - Drug free. - Completes tasks to a high standard. - A highly developed sense of urgency. - Someone that is reliable and is happy to work when required however isn’t chasing us for more hours than what are offered. A bit about the gear / equipment we run: Most of our gear is high hours and not new. We run a fleet of honda bikes from the big reds up to the 520 foreman & pioneer 1000 side by sides. A variety of tractor brands 50hp-250hp. Tripple mower combination, 5m power harrow. We have a sheep conveyor for the larger stock handling tasks. Calf rearer required - fixed term position. Minimum of 2 years experience, must be skilled in identifying health issues early, tubing calves with colostrum and administering treatments. We have 3 positions available for calf rearers near Rangiora. We have 1300 cows and rear 350 replacements in total over 2 farms. The focus is on attention to detail and healthy replacement and bobby calves as well as running an efficient calf rearing system. All roles require a strong, physically capable person able to handle calves. The farms are 1km from Rangiora. Accommodation is available for all positions if required. 1. Lead calf rearer – this person will be responsible for the calf rearing team and be involved with planning with the farm manager. This role requires proven experience with calf rearing and an ability to work with staff. The role is fulltime from late July to late September, and then hours reducing until all the calves are weaned in early December. 2. Calf rearing 2ic – this role will be to support the lead calf rearer and maintain high standards. This is a fulltime position from late July to late September. Some calf rearing experience preferred. 3. Assistant calf rearer. – this person will be physically capable and help with the peak of calving. No experience needed. We are looking for a drive-in, full time calf rearer, to work alongside a part-timer and the permanent staff. Rearing approximately 80 heifer replacements, with the rest beef calves which will leave the farm at 4-6 days old. Due to the scale of the operation, experience would be preferred. This is a casual, drive-in position, located 5 minutes from Foxton township. About the Farm Motuiti Farms is a well-established, 10-year-old dairy farm with excellent calf-rearing infrastructure, including a 12-bay calf rearing shed located beside the milking shed. We are seeking an experienced milker & farmhand to assist with general farm duties and milking a 400 cow Friesian herd, in a 42 bale rotary milking shed with automatic cup removers. This is a full time position, and the roster is 12 days on, 2 days off (i.e every second weekend off). Morning milkings are usually between 4:30-7:30am and afternoons are usually between 2:00 – 4:30pm. Other farm duties you may be involved with will include general farm duties e.g: · Shifting cows & feeding · Fencing, weed control · Shed cleaning and set up · Identifying and alerting other staff/vet about sick animals You will be required to ride a quad bike, and drive the tractor. The farm contour is completely flat with well laid out paddocks, central races and all paddocks are irrigated to troughs. You must be able to work as part of a team and/or sole charge. There are 2 other full time workers (the farm manager and the farm owner). We are looking for an honest, hard working, experienced and reliable team player. We have a small, relaxed, flexible, family friendly team, with a drug free policy in our work place. There may be a possibility for on farm accommodation to be provided. We are situated in Longburn, 10 minutes from Palmerston north, so handy for town.
